It was a 74-room governmental palace. Uxmal is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.  Over the past twenty-five years, my family and I visited it often, and  no matter how many times we see it, we don’t mind coming back to it over and over. After exploring the main sites, we took the path towards the Pyramid of the Old Woman. There are huge cisterns which supplied the city with water. Although there is controversy on the past of Uxmal, all can agree that the site has been very well-preserved and the buildings present make an impact on visitors today. While legend has it that the tallest structure in Uxmal was built in a single night, archaeologists have determined the Pyramid of the Magician was created during the successive construction of five temples at different levels and in different styles over the span of at least 300 years.
It is decorated with fancy carvings of masks, birds, and flowers.  A few drops of rain soon accompanied the pleasant breeze as we stood there, amazed.
Part of me wants to see them in their former glory. The last addition, the House of the Magician at the top, was added in 900 A.D.

 We sat on top for a long time, enjoying the breeze, and the view of the site. The ruling family of Uxmal aligned with the Spanish when they arrived in 1550.

That's why the rain god, Chaac, was the most worshipped in Uxmal. Instead it is the decoration of more than 20 thousand specially created stones creating beautiful mosaics which draws in visitors. There is a single room that can be entered via the east side of the pyramid.So yeah, Uxmal, Giza, Pumu Punku and all those megalithic sites date (in my opinion) from more than 10 thousand years ago, but millions is just to far fetched.  We stood on top for a long time, enjoying the water hitting our hot bodies. Uxmal is one of my favorite ancient Maya cities in the state of Yucatan. We can no longer enter any of the rooms, though we remember being inside them during previous visits.

In reality, the pyramid was first built around 569A.D. The final Western building is the most elaborate of the four, with various serpents and masks of Chaac.The conservation efforts at Uxmal have greatly enhanced the experience for tourists.
