The California College Student Emergency Support Fund is offering help, with one-time $500 hardship grants to help pay for housing, technology, and other expenses as you continue your education. *Strengthening Institutions include institutions that are not participating in the other MSI programs but have at least 50 percent of their degree students receiving need-based assistance under Title IV of the Higher Education Act or have a substantial number of enrolled students receiving Pell Grants, and have low educational and general expenditures. This funding is not connected to the financial aid provided by colleges and universities or state and federal programs. California College Student Grant To support California college students through these unprecedented times, MAF has established the CA College Student Support Fund.
To be eligible for the California College Student Emergency Support Fund, students must: Be currently enrolled full-time (12+ units) as an undergraduate at a California State University, California Community College or University of California campus Have earned at least 24 semester units or 36 quarter units (i.e., one academic year of coursework) Students at USC can apply for up to $3,000 in cash grants. Administered by Mission Asset Fund (MAF), the Fund is a statewide philanthropic response to address emergency needs for the state’s low-income college students, including undocumented immigrants, foster youth, and those who are housing insecure. Students cannot apply for assistance directly from the U.S. Department of Education but should contact their institutions for further information and guidance.

The Department will not initiate any enforcement action based solely on these statements because they lack the force and effect of law. A formal notice will be published in the Federal Register in the near future.
